Colorado Receives Assistance: Buying Foreclosure Listings to Help a Local Market

By jason | March 14, 2008

As the sheer volume of foreclosure listings coming on to the market in Colorado has been astounding over the past 5 years, The National Foundation for Credit Counseling, a national foreclosure prevention agency, announced yesterday that it would be providing more than $130,000 to local housing agencies and foreclosure prevention advocates in the northern Colorado and southern Wyoming markets stem the ride of rising foreclosures.

The NFCC has pledged to provide more than 15$ million nationally to groups and organizations working to prevent more homes from becoming foreclosure listings statistics. Colorado sorely needs the assistance, as it has been a leader of the pack when it comes to foreclosure listings for quite some time.

One of the major ways grant money like this ends up finding its way into local communities is by providing foreclosure awareness and information to defaulted homeowners informing them of their options. One of the most common and oftentimes fruitful options for defaulted homeowners is to sell their property, allowing them to pay off their debt and avoid a credit-ruining foreclosure. This can mean big things for local investors as well, as part of fighting the negative economical effects of foreclosure listings is to make sure the properties are being bought up.

Finding foreclosure listings, and especially pre foreclosure listings, can be very lucrative for investors, as these properties are available for below market prices. In addition, increased awareness of the need for the homes to be purchased, and more homeowners looking to sell to avoid foreclosure creates great buying opportunities. Buying homes through foreclosure listings can be personally a great financial decision, and can help make you part of the solution to the foreclosure epidemic as well.
